The Faculty
Teddy Norland
Non-Executive Director
Teddy - also known as Teddy Bear, Baby Bear, Bear Dog, Ted, and occasionally Madame Flufferton of Orchard Leigh - joined the School with great promise and immediately embarked on further professional development. After graduating with honours from puppy school (top of her class in charm, enthusiasm, and selective hearing), she began in general duties before rising swiftly to become the School’s only Non-Executive Director. She continues to hold this position with dignity, gravitas, and the occasional muddy pawprint.
Since then, Teddy has taken on additional senior responsibilities, most notably her self-appointed role as Chief Shredding Officer, where she brings an unrivalled commitment to the secure disposal of paper - sometimes before anyone has finished reading it. She also serves as an over-ambitious security guard, bravely patrolling the premises with ideas far above her size, particularly when confronting her long-standing love-hate rival: The Squirrel (The relationship remains tense but theatrically entertaining.)
Teddy attends the office daily, performing rigorous inspections of desks, doorways, and most importantly her administrative colleagues’ handbags. Outdoors, she continues her tradition of lively debates with the local bird community, though recent discussions have been overshadowed by her ongoing attempt to negotiate a peace treaty with said squirrel.
As a seasoned recipient of homeopathic care, Ted is an ardent ambassadress of natural health. She often appears at Hawkwood to greet tutors and students, offering encouragement in the form of enthusiastic tail wags, soulful gazes, and occasionally a deeply passionate bark.
Outside of office hours, Baby Bear (as she is lovingly known to Mani and Amanda) enjoys countryside walks, window-shopping in Stroud, and chauffeured trips in the family car. Her signature relaxation pose - lying upside down with her belly exposed to the world - perfectly captures the essence of Teddy: confident, content, approachable, and blissfully unbothered by corporate hierarchy.
