Study Around Your Life

Learning designed for real life

One of the biggest reasons people put off studying is because they worry they simply won't have the time. Perhaps you're working full-time. Raising a family. Caring for someone. Running a business. Or maybe life is just wonderfully busy. The truth is, most of our students aren't full-time students. They're ordinary people with jobs, families, responsibilities and lives already full. That's exactly why we've designed our courses to fit around your life - not ask you to fit around ours.

Start when you're ready

There's no need to wait for the next academic year or a fixed enrolment date. Most of our courses can be started whenever you're ready. If today feels like the right time to begin, you can begin. If you've finally reached the point where you have the time and motivation to study, we don't think you should have to wait another six months. Your journey starts when you're ready.

Learn at your own pace

No two students study in exactly the same way. Some enjoy immersing themselves in their studies and move quickly through the course. Others prefer a gentler pace, fitting their learning around work, family and everything else life brings. Both approaches are equally valid.

As a guide, we usually recommend around 14-16 hours of study each week, but this isn't a rule - it's simply what works well for many students. If you have more time available, you're welcome to study more and complete the course more quickly. If life is particularly busy, you can slow down and study at a pace that feels manageable. This is your journey.

Home study and a flexible time frame allows me to balance my learning with other commitments whilst the quick turn-around of assignments, tutor availability and clinical practice component mean that I am getting quality teaching input and interactive learning. Joanne , Nutrition Student

We've already built extra time into your course

We know life doesn't always go according to plan. That's why we give you considerably more time than most students actually need. For example, a course designed to be completed in around 12 months typically comes with 18 months to finish it. That extra time provides breathing space for holidays, busy periods at work, family commitments or simply those weeks when life has other ideas. Should you need even longer, extensions are usually available for a small renewal fee, allowing you to continue without losing the progress you've already made. We want your studies to work with your life - not compete with it.

Progress that builds naturally

Every assignment you complete moves you another step forward. There are no high-pressure end-of-year examinations to revise for. Instead, your learning is assessed continuously throughout your course, allowing your knowledge, confidence and practical skills to develop steadily over time. Most students find this a far more enjoyable and natural way to learn.

Support when you need it

Studying flexibly doesn't mean studying alone. Throughout your course you'll have your own personal tutor, who will mark your work, answer your questions and encourage you as you progress. Whenever you need guidance, someone is there to help. Many students tell us this ongoing relationship with their tutor becomes one of the most valuable parts of their learning journey.

Learn when it suits you

Life rarely follows a timetable. That's why your learning resources are available whenever you need them. Study guides, videos and learning materials can be accessed day or night. Movie lectures can be paused, replayed, downloaded and watched again whenever you need a refresher. Some lessons you'll watch once. Others you'll return to many times as your understanding grows. You decide when and how you learn.

I love everything about it—firstly the flexibility of the study years, which for my lifestyle is essential... The flexibility that the School gives is a major relief, especially with the upheavals of living and moving to various different countries. Brenda, Homeopathy Student

Choose the support that works for you

Everyone learns differently. Some students enjoy joining every discussion group, webinar and tutorial they can. Others prefer to study quietly on their own, reaching out only when they need support. We offer a choice of clinic times, discussion groups and tutorials so you can decide what fits best around your own schedule. The support is there whenever you want it.

Study from anywhere in the world

Our students live in over 100 countries, studying from cities, villages and rural communities across the globe. Some study at the kitchen table before breakfast. Some fit learning around work. Others take their course with them wherever life happens to take them. For students on our practitioner programmes, much of the clinical training can also be completed online, making professional training accessible wherever you live. If you'd like to spend time with us in person, we also run a range of course-specific events and clinical training in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Many students enjoy joining us and it is always lovely to see our students in person.

A course that grows with you

Life changes. Jobs change. Families grow. Circumstances shift. The flexibility of our courses means your studies can change with you. You might move quickly for a few months, slow down for a while, then pick up the pace again later. The important thing isn't how quickly you finish. It's that you keep moving towards the future you want.

You can do this

One of the things we hear most often from new students is: I wasn't sure I'd be able to fit studying into my life. A few months later, many of those same students wonder why they didn't start sooner. You don't need to have everything perfectly organised before you begin. You simply need the desire to learn and a willingness to take the first step. We'll help you with the rest.

What was important to me was being able to take the time to learn at my own pace instead of taking the course on someone else's schedule. Eddie, Anatomy & Physiology Student

"I like the fact that you can make the course fit around your lifestyle. If you need to take a break then that's fine." Nutrition Student

Over the last forty years we've taught thousands of students, and very few have had the luxury of putting the rest of their lives on hold to study. Most are balancing work, family and countless other commitments. That's why we've built flexibility into almost every aspect of our courses. We believe education should fit around your life, not ask you to fit around ours. Our job is to help you keep moving towards your goal, whatever pace feels right for you.
