What if that voice in your head is wrong?

I read a book recently that made me think of so many conversations I have with people just like you. It’s called The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer.

One of the ideas that really stayed with me is something wonderfully simple:
You are not the voice in your head.

You know the one I mean. The voice that says:
“Who am I to think I could do something new at my age?”
“It’s been years since I studied.”
“What if I start and can’t do it?”
“Perhaps I’ve left it too late.”

We all have a voice like this. And the extraordinary thing is that we can spend years believing it. I know I did.
But Singer asks us to notice something very simple:
If you can hear the voice in your head, then who is listening to it?

In other words, the voice isn’t you. It is simply a voice in your head. And once you start to notice that, you can start to question it. Not try to silence it. Just notice it.
“Ah. There’s that voice again, telling me I can’t do this.”

And perhaps, for the first time, you can choose not to let it make the decision for you.
I think about this a lot when I speak to people who are considering studying with us. Because very often, the thing stopping them isn’t lack of ability. It isn’t even lack of time.
It's the story they’ve been telling themselves about who they're allowed to be.

Perhaps you’ve spent twenty years looking after other people.
Perhaps your working life has taken you in a completely different direction.
Perhaps something inside you has been quietly asking, “Is this really all I want to do?”
Or perhaps you’ve always been fascinated by natural health, but you’ve told yourself that studying it properly is something you should have done years ago.

And then there is the voice, saying:
“Be sensible.”
“It’s too late.”
“What would people think?”
“You should be thinking about retirement, not starting something new.”

But here’s something I have learned after many years of talking to our students:
You don’t have to be the person you were 10, 20 or 30 years ago.
You are allowed to change and become curious again.
And you don’t have to know exactly where it will lead.

So, if you’ve been thinking about studying Homeopathy, Nutrition, Naturopathy, Herbal Medicine or one of our other courses, but there’s a voice in your head telling you all the reasons why you shouldn’t…
Perhaps you don’t need to get rid of the voice. Perhaps you just need to stop letting it make the decision. And if you’d like to explore what’s possible, we’d love to talk to you.

Sometimes a new chapter begins with something very small: “I wonder if I could…”
And then, perhaps, you take one little step and find out:
