From the back cover:
Solanaceae: The Nightmare between Light and Dark explores the parallels and distinguishing features of a group of homeopathic medicines with Belladonna as its archetype. Not constrained by the botanical family, Massimo Mangialavori broadens the scope of this group to other homeopathic medicines such as Lyssinum, Gallicum acidum, and Tanacetum that share fundamental themes with other Solanacea remedies. He examines the well-known toxic Solanaceae such as Belladonna, Stramonium, Hyoscyamus, as well as less represented remedies such as Mandragora, Solanum nigrum, Solanum tuberosum aegrotans. The non-toxic Solanaceae, Capsicum, Dulcamara, Tabacum, Lycopersicum and Solanum tuberosum are also presented and compared with the other Solanaceae.

With a fresh outlook and characteristic precision, Dr Mangialavori refines our understanding of this group of substances from meticulous analysis of his cured cases as well as the classic homeopathic literature. In true Renaissance fashion, this beloved Italian medical doctor weaves his broad knowledge and experience of anthropology, biology, botany, medicine, psychology, history, mythology, and the Classics for a fuller understanding of homeopathic medicines as well as the study of humankind.

The Solanaceae: Nightmare between Light and Dark is prepared from a transcript of a class hosted by the New England Homeopathic Academy.

About the Author:
For many years Massimo has been widely known and revered in his native Italy, and highly respected throughout Europe. Now, in just three years, he has made a phenomenal impact in this country, emerging as one of the finest and most popular homeopaths to teach in the States. Fourteen years ago he left his cardiac surgical training and immersed himself in homeopathy. The path of his search was diverse and rigorous -with South American shamans, with studies of medical anthropology and with his own innate curiosity which led him to enquire ever more deeply into the fundamental nature of homeopathic remedies. Massimo's fascination with all natural phenomena from an anthropological, physical, psychological and esoteric point of view have led to an astoundingly comprehensive and profound understanding of remedies and their families. Whether it is the Strontiums, the Dicotyledons or the Arachnida he leads us into an exciting new world of intimate insight. Not necessarily limiting families to just their botanical or zoological classifications, he observes 'when studied on a deeper level, all the symptomatology of a particular remedy gives us the impression of another remedy-so, for instance, Zincum Phosphoricum may well be seen as belonging to the snake family.'Taking nothing at face value, he studies every aspect of the substance-the chemical and toxic effects, the behavior and habits of a plant, mineral or animal, their symbolism and history-and presents each substance in an entirely new light. We may think we know our polycrests, but.... !

Massimo will show us how to increase our understanding of human beings, the substances we work with, and most importantly, the interaction between the two. His vision and insight have opened a whole new understanding into the process of our remedies and the workings of homeopathy itself.

All of Massimo's cases have at least a two year follow- up, with acute and chronic complaints having been cured by the same remedy. Massimo asks that the residential seminar be for experienced homeopaths only-in this way, we can work together at an optimum level, sharing insights, strategies and experiences to fully understand the cases and nuances of the remedies.
