William Boericke (1849-1929)
Dr. William Boericke was born in Austria. After studying at the Vienna Medical School for a year he immigrated with his family to Ohio in the United States. Later he moved to San Francisco, and in 1876 he graduated from the Philadelphia Medical College. In the year 1880 he also became a graduate of the Hahnemann Medical College. He went on to practice as a homeopath for over fifty years, a remarkable feat.

In 1901, drawing from his wealth of knowledge and experience he wrote 'Homeopathic Materia Medica', a book that has become a classic in the homeopathic genre. As well as including symptoms verified from homeopathic provings Boericke also included clinical observations of many remedies that were hitherto unproven but that had been shown to be efficacious. The repertory that is now included with it was added by his brother five years later.
