Future healthcare

01 December 2009 at 12:16

Imagine if future healthcare was integrated with alternative and complementary therapies and offered through the NHS and GP practices. Wouldn’t it be great to walk into your local surgery and have a menu of different therapies on offer, with a specialist there to offer advise on each of them. You could have a preliminary consultation and be informed about options available for your illness and then decide which therapy or combinations of treatment to use. Almost all complementary therapies are far less expensive than conventional drugs and they can help with many things that modern drugs aren’t so good for such as mental and emotional illness, depression and stress.

The beauty of complementary medicines is they stay close to their roots – they have often developed slowly through the people and the earth, over thousands of years of use and development, clinical trial after clinical trail in the real world, used on real people, are testament to there healing abilities. A lot of modern medicine is only possible because of the advances in technology and the vast amounts of money the pharmaceutical companies have to develop research and new drugs. The knowledge and equipment required is vastly expensive.

If we are moving to a time were we need to become more sustainable and make better use of our resources and be able to support our communities in a more local way then I think complimentary medicine and especially homeopathy have a lot to offer.

Homeopathy can be treated anyway, the basic principles are easy to grasp, and most people could learn to treat simple first aid situations with out extensive training. Even its remedies are relatively easy to make up. Most come from nature – plants, animals and minerals – things that are found readily here in the UK. An animal remedy can be made from a feather, milk or a hair – because the entire genome can be found in one cell and all homeopathy needs is the energy signature of the substance. Homeopathy is an energetic medicine, working at the energetic level through the mental, emotional and physical - remedies are potentised through serial dilution so that its energy signature is enhanced. Although homeopathy has been observed and proved over thousands of years we still can’t explain how it truly works. There are many principles, ideas and theories that hold true, but the science of homeopathy at the energetic level is still waiting to be discovered. Millions testify to its healing properties and clinical trials demonstrate that is more affective than placebo and it works on animals and babies, one day we will know how!

Because homeopathy cures on the principle of treating like with like, it means it is possible to understand the curative principles of the things around you by doing controlled ‘provings’ – taking dilutions of the remedy until symptoms appear. This is not advised, in fact it could be dangerous if not done properly, but in a ‘dooms-day’ scenario it would be possible to create remedies from what is in your own garden. These could be used for acute illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhea, coughs, colds, headaches, fever and much more – the homeopathic remedy would give the body an energetic push in the right direction aiding the bodies innate healing propensity. Obviously it is far easier to buy a first aid kit and do a basic course, but it is nice to know you can fall back on this stuff if you had to. First aid homeopathy is quick and easy to learn and implement, but for in-depth chronic prescribing you require 3-4 years training. Rather than just looking at surface symptoms, chronic prescribing is about understanding the underlying and maintaining cause for a person’s disease. So, if we were looking for local health solutions that people can apply then you would definitely want a trained person within each community to do the chronic prescribing but families could easily look after their basic first aid needs with homeopathy. Giving people the knowledge to look after their own health. Healthy people are happy people. There is nothing of greater value than your health.
